Project 365

Project 365 | 131231 | IMAGE 365

After 365 consecutive days of photographing different scene in and around my life, I bring you my final post of Project 365. It’s a composite image from my last image taken on 131231 (self-portrait) with my first image (130101 – Road). I thought it would be fitting to connect the span of the year through an image that gives you the beginning and the end …

The scene creates a question … Am I reflecting back at the past or looking ahead toward the future …

Thanks for all those who have stopped by to check out my project over this past year. And I hope you continue to come back throughout the upcoming year to see what’s happening in the world of Jay Moore Photography …

And as a reminder for some of you out there, below are the self imposed rules that I used throughout the year …
What is Project 365

  • I’ll capture and share at least one photograph per day throughout 2013
  • Images will be captured every day, but will not necessarily be posted on my blog that same day. Meaning, on Monday, I’ll potentially have three Project 365 posts to showcase … Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s images. Same will be true when I’m unavailable to post on certain days throughout the year while on assignment or vacation
  • My goal is not to try and capture a portfolio type scene with every day’s image, but to expand on ideas, styles and techniques to help me continue to build a deeper understanding of the photography medium as an art form
  • All images will be captured on a DSLR camera, not on a camera phone, making me live my life with my camera almost literally strapped to my side
  • I’ll implement a variety of post processing techniques, ranging from nothing to extremely complicated
  • I’ll include a range of explanation with each days post, from nothing to many paragraphs of detail

Also as another reminder as you go through my years worth of images …

Print Purchase: If you’re interested in purchasing a photographic print, all the images posted on my blog are available for purchase. Please email be directly through the ‘contact Jay’ link located at the top of the page.

Project 365 | 131230 | Lines & Shapes

I ran across another roof that had a dusting of snow, which created a fun abstract scene of lines, shapes and contrast of black and whites …

And make sure to check back tomorrow as Project 365 comes to a close with my final entry and photograph …

Project 365 | 131229 | Wet Bark

A heavy rain, and the wetness that it brings, always creates many different types of images that you could never get on a clear, beautiful day. It may be from growing up in the damp Northwest, but when the rain comes, it doesn’t mean that you put your camera away, but instead take it out and look to create something.

That’s exactly what happened when we had a heavy, constant rain for about 24 straight hours and the bark of all the trees where soaked, which created fun patterns to photograph …

Project 365 | 131228 | Mum – Part 3 (Winter)

Everything goes through the cyclical pattern of the seasons and it always makes me reminisce when I see something that reminds me of days gone by … Such as the image below of our mum, which was showcased earlier in the year during its peeking brilliant colored days (CLICK HERE to see it in its prime), but is now slumbering in its winter cycle …

Project 365 | 131227 | Snowflake

One of my wives favorite things are snowflakes, so we have lots of them around the home during the winter months, including the recent addition of an outside solar powered snowflake light seen below. I photographed it in the late sunlight, which helps creates the starburst …

Project 365 | 131226 | Blue Skies

A good time to reflect about the year gone by and the new year ahead are the days between Christmas and New Years … And as an optimist, the image below represents what JMP is thinking about for the upcoming year … Blue skies ahead …

Project 365 | 131225 | Merry Christmas

Christmas is full of many feelings, ideas and special moments, but I believe that peace is what is at the heart of everything that is good about the holiday …

So, I felt it was appropriate to photograph one of the family’s most beloved Christmas light scenes, the lit peace sign …

Project 365 | 131223 | Raindrops

The sheets of rain came in waves throughout the day and during a moment of pause, I photographed the large drops sitting nicely on my cars windshield, while it reflected the tree and dark scene around it …

Project 365 | 131221 | Winter Solstice

The image below was taken during the moment of time (12:11 ET) the winter solstice was taking place … It’s one of my favorite times of year, as the days begin to get slightly longer with each rotation of the earth.

Project 365 | 131220 | Winter Blur

The wintery type scene below was captured through adjusting my white balance to give it a cold, blue hue, which matched the temperatures outside. The buttery blur effect was created through trying different aperture setting in combination with where my focus point landed.

A simplistic black and white scene …

Project 365 | 131218 | Texture

As the snow turned to ice and then began to melt, the patches left on the ground had lots of fun texture, especially when backlighting it against the sun, such as in the image below …

Project 365 | 131217 | Christmas Scene

One of my wives favorite decorations is the santa pot that she purchased last year for our poinsettia. It’s full of Christmas cheer and sits nicely in the front window welcoming all who come …

Project 365 | 131216 | Snow Abstract

I always have fun finding abstract type scenes of snow, as it provides a wonderful bright/white portion of a contrasty black and white image. And as I spotted the snow melting from the roof of our garage in an interesting way, I grabbed my camera and captured the scene you see below …

Project 365 | 131215 | Ornament

My wife decorates our house with a few large ribbons, some garland and an oversized Christmas tree ornament that hangs near our front door. It was time to capture the cheerful item that greets us each time we arrive home (candy cane forest can be seen in the background) …

Project 365 | 131214 | Snowflakes

We received another wave of heavy, wet, large snowflakes, so I grabbed my camera and long lens and captured a few frames.

Project 365 | 131213 | Christmas Colors

One of our neighbors has a beautiful stand of bushes that have vibrant, colorful red berries on them during the winter months. And with the white snow topping these green leaved bushes, the colors reminded me of Christmas, so I snapped a few frames …

Project 365 | 131212 | Snow and Leaf

With autumn on its way out and winter already showing itself, I bring you a fun abstract type image of the season about to come to the mid-Atlantic region …

Project 365 | 131211 | Candy Cane Forest

I’ve always enjoyed Christmas lights for as long as I can remember and since my wife and I have plenty of yard to decorate, I figured this was the year to have fun with some outside lights.

The plan hatched with my wife and I standing in our front window trying to think of a way to highlight some of our front forest area, both so we could see it and it could be shared with the neighborhood. The phrase, ‘walked through the seven-layers of the candy cane forest’ popped into our heads from the movie Elf with Will Ferrell (which our family watches each Christmas season) and it instantly stuck. After a run to the local store to pick up some white and red mini-lights and several hours on a tall ladder, we created a little candy cane forest in our front yard …

Project 365 | 131210 | Tree and Snow

Today brought us several inches of wet snow, which stuck beautifully to the trees around our neighborhood. I wanted to highlight the dark trunks and branches against the bright snow and the patterns that it created …

Project 365 | 131209 | Tree and Ice

After getting hit with freezing rain overnight, we woke to everything covered in a sheet of ice. I loved how the bare branches of the trees where coated in the ice, which provided some fun scenes …
